Qatar is the best airline in the 2012 Skytrax ranking

Skytrax has once again honoured the world’s best airlines with the World Airlines Award. Basing its findings on surveys conducted with roughly 20 million people from over 100 different countries, Skytrax annually compiles the Top 10 of the world’s best airlines. Qatar Airways landed first place for the second year running.

Palma de Mallorca airport wants to charge a luggage trolley fee

Spanish airport operator Aena is said by media reports to be seeking to introduce charges for the use of baggage trolleys at Palma de Mallorca airport. It is said that, as of January 1 2013, passengers will be required to pay one euro to cover the costs of maintaining and cleaning the trolleys.

Air France slashes jobs

Air France is looking to make roughly ten per cent of its workforce redundant by the end of 2013 in order to get back into the black. The intention is therefore to cut some 5,100 jobs over the next eighteen months.

Air France-KLM has reached an agreement with its French pilots concerning measures intended to save over 1 billion euros by 2014. One of the decisions was for a temporary moratorium on salary increases.

British Airways expands its range of flights

British Airways is expanding its portfolio of flights within the British Isles: as of December 9 2012, passengers will be able to fly from London Heathrow to the Isle of Man, and the existing flight schedule to Belfast will be increased for the winter.
